Shaw Reel Cinema Club Presents - There Can Be Only One! Highlander: 40th anniversary
Shaw Reel Cinema Club proudly presents a 40th anniversary screening of Highlander.
There can be only one....allegedly
40 years ago a cinematic legend was born. In 1986 Highlander hit cinema screens like a bolt of lightning. Featuring immortal warriors, epic sword fights, doomed romance, dodgy accents, a Queen soundtrack. Highlander is a neon soaked masterpiece of fantasy action.
The casting is absurd but somehow it works. A Frenchman playing a Scotsman and a Scotsman playing an Egyptian Spanish Peacock.
Christopher Lambert delivers a brooding performance as immortal clansman Connor MacLeod while Sean Connery is charismatic and campy as his mentor and fellow immortal Juan Sanchez - Villalobos Ramirez and of course there's a towering performance from Clancy Brown, chewing the scenery as antagonist The Kurgan.
From the thunderous "Quickening" to the legendary line delivery it's a masterpiece of glorious chaos. Stylishly directed by music video veteran Russel Mulcahy, Highlander has it all.
Join us on May 29th to witness Connor MacLeod battle through the ages for The Prize and ask the immortal question: "Who wants to live forever?"
The night will begin with a live performance on the Wurlitzer cinema organ courtesy of The Scottish Cinema Organ Trust.
We will be operating a bar and selling snacks, popcorn and candyfloss.
